Past initiatives undertaken by the Council include the Grow Our Farms campaign which used television and website advertising to showcase the many positive contributions made by farmers to the overall economy of Ontario.

Past Projects:
Agriculture and Food Advocacy Project
 
The Presidents’ Council’s engaged Edelman Canada to develop an Ontario agriculture and food strategic plan for public outreach and communication including proposed tactics. For the project, Edelman:
  • reviewed and provided a written summary of agricultural consumer outreach and information campaigns, that had been completed and were underway including the results or measurables;
  • assessed and articulated in writing the pressures that exist on the collective agriculture and food production brand; and,
  • developed a consumer communications strategy designed to positively impact pressures including suggested tactics and accompanying budget. Implementation is not part of the deliverables. 

The Council worked on a strategic plan for agriculture and food.  In the process of writing the Strategy, with the assistance of the late David Sparling from the Ivey School of Business at Western, three key strategic pillars were identified:  economic growth, health and environment.




Economic growth was selected as the initial pillar on which to focus. A report outlining recommendations for supporting and enhancing the economic viability of agriculture and food production in the province was released in April 2013.
